HUGE DEMAND FOR FOX PELTS PROMPTS HUNTERS TO KILL UP TO 1 MILLION FOXES
(TRANSLATION – HUGE DEMAND FOR FOX PELTS)
It seems like the market for fox fur is growing. On this fur market in Thun (Berner Oberland region)1,300 complete fox pelts have been sold for record prices. The local hunting societies, naturally, see this is encouraging and want to raise the numbers of foxes killed per year.
Pelts are exported mostly, to Korea, Russia and China, to be turned into jackets, collars and blankets.
Note: there’s also badger fur on offer (image 2).
This development in Switzerland is bound to have an effect on German also. With the next full moon (25th of February) the so-called “Fox week(s)” will take place. This is the annual mass shooting of foxes, using the mating season – where foxes are less cautious – to maximum effect.
